A
good trip out this meeting with 10 cars (well, 9 cars and a Volvo) meeting
at Birch Services on the M62 to convoy over to the Royal Armouries in Leeds
where we met up with 2 more cars. We had some first – timers at this drive
out, so welcome to Ken and Alison and to Ray and Toni. Welcome also to
Geoff, brought along for the ride by Paula, out in her car for the first
time in ages. We’re all working on Geoff now to get him to join the Club as
he also drives an MR2.
The
visit to the Royal Armouries was really enjoyable with the added bonus of a
nearly empty multi-storey car park to play in and 8 levels to get to the top
for photos. After the visit it was all over to the Sun Inn for a superb
carvery lunch and then on to James and Yvonne’s new house for a look-see.
Yvonne managed to get us all lost between the Royal Armouries and the pub
(actually she managed to do it within about half a mile of leaving the
Armouries) but she did at least manage to find her way home from the pub (a
natural and very important talent to have).
Thanks to Yvonne and James for
organizing the day and letting us invade their house. And
at this point hello to Bernadette Yvonne & James's next door neighbour who
also happens to own an MR2 roadster and was badgered that much may very well
become a member.
The
Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds was opened in 1996 as the new home for
the national collection of arms and armour. Each of the five themed
galleries covering War, Tournament, Self-Defence, Hunting and the arms and
armour of the Orient offers something to captivate every visitor - Henry
VIII's tournament armour for instance, the replica Edwardian Gun Room, or a
chance to shoot a crossbow. There is an exciting combination of spectacular
displays, dramatic interpretations, live action events, interactive
technology and thrilling exhibitions.

The fun and excitement continues outside in the summer months where you can
enjoy skilled demonstrations of jousting, falconry and horsemanship. By
watching our expert gunmakers and leatherworkers in the Craft Court, you can
discover how history was made. You can also see animals at close quarters in
the Menagerie.
